Gurdaspur: District Gurdaspur’s 636 panchayats, inspired by Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Agrawal, have unanimously passed resolutions on New Year’s Day to eradicate substance abuse in their villages throughout the year 2024. Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Agrawal expressed that on the first day of the new year, the 636 panchayats of the district have pledged to make their villages completely drug-free. They are committed to contributing to the Punjab government’s anti-drug campaign actively.
Dr. Agrawal highlighted that the maximum number of anti-drug resolutions were proposed in 136 panchayats of Kahnuwan Block. Additionally, 50 panchayats each from Gurdaspur, Dina Nagar, Dorangla, Kadialyan, Sri Hargobind Sahib, Batala, Kalanaur, Fatehgarh Churian, Dera Baba Nanak, and Dhariwal Blocks have also adopted resolutions against substance abuse.
Emphasizing the significance of this initiative, Dr. Agrawal mentioned that the resolutions made by the panchayats on the occasion of the new year demonstrate a collective commitment to making the entire district free from the clutches of narcotics. The district administration pledged its full support to this noble cause. Dr. Agrawal asserted that those youth trapped in the web of addiction would receive necessary medical treatment and rehabilitation under the administration’s guidance.
Furthermore, he disclosed plans to provide vocational training to the youth to equip them with the skills needed for a better future. Commending the participating panchayats, Dr. Agrawal, the Deputy Commissioner, congratulated them for their dedication to the cause. He expressed optimism that such efforts could liberate the district and the state of Punjab from the menace of drugs. Dr. Agrawal asserted that the endeavors of Gurdaspur district would significantly contribute to transforming Punjab into a drug-free state.
In conclusion, he urged the remaining panchayats in the district to follow suit and take a similar resolution in their villages to eliminate substance abuse entirely, seizing the opportunity provided by the new year.
