A month after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, which cost 26 lives, the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah held the first cabinet meeting in the region and not in either capital. Officials in Jammu and Kashmir believe this move will help bring tourism back to the area which was badly hurt by the attack.
Because of the attack, tourism, a main source of revenue for the area, all but stopped as thousands chose to leave the valley unexpectedly. In order to restore trust and help the region’s tourism industry, Omar Abdullah asked for a new emphasis on tourism, saying it was a safe activity for everyone.
The JKNC leader told the media, “We wish for the world to consider Jammu and Kashmir’s tourism as a way to earn money.” It is important to approach Kashmir carefully, but our intention is to restart tourism immediately once we can. “For the past five to six weeks, our country has faced many challenges and J&K has been hit the hardest,” he said.
According to Abdullah, the government carried out a thorough security review after four to six terrorists ambushed tourists at Baisaran meadows on April 22. Results from the studies have allowed some regions to become available to tourists once again.
Many have called it the worst attack since the deadly 2019 Pulwama event, which led to new tensions between India and Pakistan. Even with these obstacles, the government is aiming to restore the region’s usual activities and raise tourism levels once more.
