The Odisha Police continues to investigate the fatal incident that claimed the life of a Nepali student at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) University, according to Indian official statements from Friday. The university has faced a second incident of a Nepali student’s death within three months, thus creating major questions about student security measures.

A female student in computer science at the institution died by hanging inside her hostel room on Thursday evening. Police Commissioner Suresh Dev Datta Singh maintains that the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police are investigating a death by unknown means while executing an extensive examination of the incident. The recently reported tragedy happened after KIIT experienced a prior death of another BTech student from Nepal on February 16. The previous student death at the university triggered an official response from Nepali authorities after Nepali students started demonstrating against it.

Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba of Nepal demanded that a comprehensive investigation take place following this latest situation. India’s Ministry of External Affairs sent condolences to the deceased student’s family while declaring full commitment to ensuring the safety of all international students studying in India. The Odisha Police is executing a full-scale investigative effort at the present time. The ministry works closely with Nepali officials and Odisha government representatives, together with KIIT management, for real-time and transparent coordination procedures.

Through its latest actions, the Odisha government supports the bereaved family while providing full cooperation to them. In her social media post, Deuba showed sadness while expressing that the Nepalese foreign ministry quickly worked with Indian officials and Odisha state representatives and the Nepalese Embassy team in Delhi to seek a complete investigation. New light has been directed at mental health assistance and safety protocols for international students studying in Indian academic institutions because of the recent consecutive deadly accidents.
