Public Works Minister Prithviraj Harichandan states that in an ambitious bid, the BJP government in Odisha has chalked out a plan of constructing 15,000 kilometres of roads every year. It is a part of the government’s broad infrastructure plan to build 75,000 km of roads in the state in the next five years. Harichandan announced it after a meeting with the Public Works Department (PWD) Friday.
Apart from developing the road, the Odisha government plans to make a comprehensive policy for road communication in the state. Thus this policy will plan to solve some of the important points, which include the need to bring down the manner of road accidents and boost one’s safety. Harichandan also highlighted the government methodology to tackle regular road snarl-ups as a result of the laying of water pipes, electricity lines and telecommunication cables. To get this, the state is going to bring in special utility corridors that sort out the process and minimize the worry of harming road surfaces.
Environmental issues will be at the centre of the policy, primarily the eradication of trees as a means of road construction. The construction methods guidelines will include and those standards for building short, medium, and long bridges will be set.
Harichandan is aware of the roadblock that land acquisition has in rural areas and to speed up the process of road construction, with special financial provision, so that this can be overcome. The government will not only construct new roads but also pay attention to the quality inspection and maintenance of the roads upon the security and durability.
The government aims to improve infrastructure and increase the connectivity across Odisha while improving the lives of the residents by great road construction plan aimed at economic development.
