On Friday, the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) released its ‘Sankalp Patra’ (manifesto) for the Bihar Assembly elections, focusing on creating employment, education, healthcare, infrastructure, and women’s empowerment, among various other things. The NDA plans to create 10 million jobs and provide financial assistance of ₹10 lakh to individuals from Extremely Backward Classes (EBCs) – 36% of Bihar’s population – to promote self-drive and entrepreneurship. Additionally, a high-power commission will be created to examine the socio-economic status of the EBCs, with a purpose of upliftment.

In addition to community and social upliftment, NDA said it will provide ₹2,000 monthly to Scheduled Caste students enrolled full-time in courses of higher education, along with a venture fund to stimulate entrepreneurship. There are even promises of ₹4 lakh insurance cover as well as access to collateral-free vehicle loans at below-market interest rates for gig workers, auto-rickshaw drivers, and e-rickshaw drivers, in addition to plans for collateral-free loans for green homestays.

This document was released by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, along with BJP president JP Nadda and other NDA leaders. This document comes on the heels of the Opposition’s ‘Bihar ka Tejashwi Pran’, in which they promise jobs for every household and ₹2,500 a month for women.
