On Friday, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio urged the state police to serve with renewed vigour, discipline, and determination pointing out that the burden bestowed on the force must make their service to excel in all aspects of their work. He was present as a guest of honor in the opening of the refurbished Police Officers Mess at the new Police Reserve in Phesama (approximately 8 km off Kohima).

According to Rio, the fact that the crime rate in Nagaland has been very low is a testimony to the readiness, effectiveness and good preventative intelligence network of the police force. He has pointed out that the reformed Officers Mess is not to be considered merely as a dining or accommodation hall but as a place that brings about more camaraderie, better overall health and welcome both official and social events.

When referring to the new building as a proud symbol of progress, vision and commitment, Rio indicated that the project was delivered on time as per SASCI Part I, on which time is crucial in ensuring that no financial penalties are meted on it. The chief minister remarked that the structure would be used to remind the people of Nagaland of the responsibility that the police bear as well as the pride that the citizens put upon them.

During the event, Rio also gave out Pension payment orders to retired police officers and gave out group term life insurance of 10 lakh each to four nominees of the Police Salary Scheme. He urged the embrace of a robust banking culture, increased application of digital transactions and simplified pension system to do away with ghost employees and make all departments accountable.

Rio encouraged officers to utilize the newly upgraded facility in a meaningful manner, and to serve the officers with integrity and unity. He also introduced Nagaland Police Mess Reservation App to update and make the facility user-friendly.
