A matter of concern recently was a reported scam of ₹3.36 lakhs of a 46-year-old yoga instructor in Mumbai. According to the police, she was beheaded by a man whom she met on a dating app.
The woman, located in the Churchgate area, which lies in the south part of Mumbai, got acquainted with this man via the dating app Tinder. In fact, the official says they interacted just a few days ago. After a couple of days of discussion, they kept exchanging phone numbers and secretly continued their synchronies via WhatsApp. On April 25th, the man talked to the woman about sending a present to her, which would be available for takeaway, the source explained.
Subsequently, a woman purporting to be from a courier company in Delhi contacted the victim, indicating the presence of a gift from Manchester. The caller requested money from the victim to complete the necessary formalities for delivering the gift, the official explained.
Allegedly, the victim transferred ₹3.36 lakh to various accounts specified by the caller, only to realize later that she had fallen prey to a scam. Consequently, she approached the Marine Drive police on Tuesday and lodged a complaint.
The law officials took the case seriously and hence recorded the caller and the culprit under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Act. An inquiry is under way at this time and the official is confirmed.
