Mumbai: Uddhav Thackeray, the veteran politician and the chief of the Shiv Sena (UBT) and Raj Thackeray, the head of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), are all finally going to hit the stage together in Mumbai at Worli after 20 years of political break-up. The long-awaited reunion is being held on the sidelines of the victory rally. The CM conceded to retaliate against the state government’s move to make Hindi a third language in the primary schools by rolling back on its decision, which is also called the Awaj Marathicha (Voice of Marathi) rally.
The rally, which can be regarded as a celebration of the Marathi pride and identity, is being run at the NSCI Dome in Worli, where both leaders have already arrived. Although the seating capacity of the venue is about 8000, there have been huge numbers of people outside, so the LED screens have been strategically placed to cater to the surplus in numbers. The audience could be seen wearing masks of Uddhav and Raj Thackeray and holding placards with the words “Aamchi Odakh Marathi” (Our Identity is Marathi) that brought the emotions and the festive mood.
It is being anchored by the well-known Marathi filmmaker-turned-producer Ajit Bhure, and thousands of pro-Shiv Sena (UBT) and MNS supporters have queued up with banners and slogans to greet the iconic leader. The occasion has not been just another day as party members and even the party leaders have referred to the occasion as a historic one, since apparently the reunification of both Thackeray cousins sends out a message that the two men have started a new era in the regional politics of India.
The MP of the Shiv Sena (UBT) party, Sanjay Raut, stated that it feels like a festival time for all Maharashtra people to see that two great leaders of the Thackeray clan, who parted ways because of ideological differences in politics, are coming together on the stage after twenty years.
The rally will be under investigation in regard to whether it will become a watershed moment that will change the unification of Marathi and the political waviness of the political situation in Maharashtra.
