Authorities in Mumbai have enhanced security after receiving a police alert on a possible terrorist attack. Mumbai Police has beefed up security in Religious places and major crowded areas in Mumbai city. Speaking in a statement to the people, the police urged the owners of the temples and all other temples in the region to be vigilant and report anything that seems out of the ordinary.

To add to security measures, police personnel have been advised to practice “exercises” in special areas primarily at places of worship and other crowded places. Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) in different zones have been provided paraded Orders to enhance security measures in their areas of operations in order to counter-check threats comprehensively.

Sada Sarvankar, the chairman of the Siddhivinayak Temple Trust said that the temple authorities have been notified to increase security and keep a close watch on all the preparations. “We have been asked by Mumbai Police to upgrade security in the temple especially and to oversee all security measures,” said Sarvankar.

On Friday the police conducted a rehearsal in the crowded Crawford Market zone which is home to two important places of worship. Authorities explained that these are mere safety rehearsals especially when the city is approaching the festive period.

As the people of Mumbai are now only out of the 10 day Ganesh Chaturthi festival, they are preparing for the next festivities which include Durga Puja, Dussehra and Diwali. These measures were put in place to cut any possible threats to the lives of people residing and those visiting during these events.

Aside from festive preparations, the city is gearing for elections to the new 288-member Maharashtra state assembly to be held in November. These precautionary measures are being adopted concerning safety in view of increased activities and incidents that occur in the city.
