Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday took a stinging swipe at the RJD-Congress alliance in Bihar, blaming it as a cause of the failure of the education system in the state in the past. Through video conferencing, speaking in Delhi, Modi announced youth-based projects worth more than 62,000 crore on skills development, ITIs, education and entrepreneurship. In Patna, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and his cabinet colleagues attended the programme.
Modi quoted that 25 years ago, the education sector in Bihar was lying in ruins. Schools and colleges were hardly operating, no new recruiting was occurring, and parents were forced to take their children out of state. This resulted in mass migration, he said. He attributed the reversal to the NDA government that assumed power in 2005 under Nitish Kumar and how the government strived to restore a system that had been mutilated.
Referring to the restoration effort as healing a limb that was infected by decay, Modi blamed previous regimes for letting Bihar fall into that miserable condition. He lauded the opening of the first Skill University in the state, named after the socialist icon and the Bharat Ratna awardee Karpoori Thakur. Nevertheless, he warned against political intrusions into stealing the honour attached to the title Jananayak, which was bestowed on Karpoori Thakur by the people on account of his simplicity and service.
He indirectly attacked some members of Congress by referring to leaders in Congress as Jananayak when recent political events in Bihar took place, as this is a reference to past objections by JD(U). Modi reiterated that these titles are not bought by campaigns or slogans on the internet, but good actions.
On the way to the national progress, he stated that prior to 2014, India was regarded as economically weak with poor growth and employment. He claimed today that the nation is on the verge of becoming one of the top three economies in the world, and Bihar will be at the centre stage through educational and skills programs.
