On Friday morning, a major fire broke out on the 42nd floor of a high-rise residential building in Byculla, South Mumbai, leading to panic among residents. Thankfully, there have been no casualties as of yet.

An official from the Mumbai Fire Brigade said the blaze happened around 10:45 AM at the twin tower residential complex at Salsette 27 on Babasaheb Ambedkar Road. Once the fire was reported, a number of fire tenders rushed to the scene, and firefighting operations were undertaken right away.

Mobilized towards the rescue and containment efforts were emergency response teams including personnel from the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST), Mumbai Police, 108 ambulance services and other agencies. The cause of the fire, though, is still unknown as officials are carrying out an investigation to find out why the incident happened.

Plumes of thick black smoke were visible coming out from the glass of the building from some distance, said eyewitnesses. The sight of the flames combined with the black smoke worried residents and everyone in the area.

The fire brigade, as it is spread its efforts to bring to an end the situation without the fire to spread to other floors or any nearby building. Till now, no figure for property damage has been officially stated.

Further updates on the firefighting operations and the cause of the same are awaited, authorities urging residents to follow safety protocols and stay calm.
