Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has threatened to crack down on drone bombings of civilian areas in the state as terrorism. On X, Singh took to the social media platform and released his anger, claiming that “the use of drones to drop bombs on civilians and security forces is an act of terrorism. Such acts of cowards are despised and condemned.”

This came after an attack by the drone, which resulted in the injury of three people, one of them being a 23-year-old woman in Imphal West on Monday evening. To set the record straight, Singh, told the public that the Manipur government is sensitive to the incident and would not leave the matter with no concrete action. “The Manipur state government is taken a serious view of this unprovoked attack and assure to counter such terrorism on our aborigines,” he added. He also said, “We condemn all types of violence and appeal the people of Manipur to rise against hatred , division and separation.”

The attack happened at 6:20 PM when, of late, suspected militants used drones to drop explosives within the Senjam Chirang vicinity. The woman who was at home also got injured as a bomb penetrated her corrugated iron roof and blew up within the compound. Two others were also affected and are still admitted to the hospital.

This drone attack is the second in this region in two consecutive days. On Sunday, a similar attack in Koutruk led to two deaths and nine people getting injured. It is said that the militants had launched the firing at random from positions on the hills in Kangpokpi district, and hence, the security forces had had to react. Manipur police have since then started search operations in the area and seized a drone, a large quantity of arms and ammunition, including explosives from Kharam Vaiphei Village. This cache comprised ten single-bore rifles, locally made mortars, Gelatin sticks, detonators, and locally manufactured rockets.
