Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has condemned in strong terms the recent attack by suspected Kuki militants on six persons in the Jiribam district. The first time that Singh commented on the violent event, he urged the public not to accept the brutality of the act and promised that the perpetrators would be dealt with soon.
Six people, including three women and three children, went missing on November 11 after a fierce gun battle between the militants and the security forces in the area. Their bodies were later fished from a river, causing a lot of sorrow and apprehension across the country. Singh described the killings as a crime against humanity; it must be inhuman to kill women and children.
CM Singh, in a video message shared on social media, said while feeling very angry and sad, “Today, I stand here with anger and sadness to speak on the barbaric killings of three innocent kids and three innocent women who were kidnapped and killed by Kuki terrorists at Jiribam.” He said that such acts of violence had no right to be in a civilized society.
Singh added that search operations were ongoing with the intent of arresting the culprits, saying that the authorities would not spare any effort in tracking the terrorists involved in the act. ‘‘Let me tell you that we are actively searching for such terrorists right now, and they shall be apprehended in the shortest time possible,’’, he said. The chief minister assured the people of the state that the government would do more to provide safety and security of life and property in the region.
This unfortunate event has fueled the existing conflict in Manipur, and more people get worried about the worsening situation of violence and, more importantly, the killing of innocent people. Mr. Singh used the remark to reassert the position of the government about fighting violence and terrorism and taking appropriate action against the criminals involved in acts of violence.
