Mamata Banerjee will take the lead in the Trinamool Congress (TC) campaign in the entire state of West Bengal, although she depends on her aides to undertake the electioneering in her constituency of Bhabanipur, south Kolkata. Having a full state-wide timetable, Banerjee is likely to have little time to spend in her constituency before the next polls.
The TMC chief will start her campaign based in North Bengal, comprising of Alipurduar, Jalpaiguri, Cooch Behar, Bankura, Purulia, Burdwan and West Midnapore districts within the next few days. At this time, the senior party officials will be involved in campaigning within Bhabanipur and this will ensure that there is high presence of the party within the local area since she will not be around.
Some of the people who are at the forefront in the constituency include cabinet minister Firhad Hakim, state minister Aroop Biswas, Rajya Sabha MP Subrata Bakshi, and various councillors and party workers. Another party MP who is actively campaigning with Mamata throughout the state is Abhishek Banerjee.
Bhabanipur is one of the strongholds of Mamata Banerjee who has occupied the seat since 2011. She won the 2021 by-election by a vast majority of more than 58,000 votes. This time however she has a stern competition with Suvendu Adhikari of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), who has already indicated confidence in victory in the seat.
As the high-stakes campaigning is in progress, both the parties are stepping up the intensity and Bhabanipur is one of the most significant contests in the state elections.
