There are the three ruling parties of Mahayuti alliance in Maharashtra that have a total of 68 candidates who are going to be securely elected in the ongoing elections to 29 municipal corporations in the state. This number increases to 69 when one candidate belonging to Islam Party is included in Malegaon. This has brought about fierce responses by the opposition parties that have accused the ruling alliance of power abuse.

These municipal corporation elections are fighting 2,869 seats. But only 44 candidates of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), 22 nominations of the Shiv Sena, 2 nominations of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), 1 nomination of the Islam Party were not opposed because of the withdrawal. On Friday, the last day of the withdrawal of the candidates, the final number was verified.

The Maharashtra ruling BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP have been accused of coerced other contestants into dropping their nominations by other opposition parties. They complain that intimidation and inducements were done at the very last minute to secure uncontested wins by Mahayuti candidates. These claims have been rejected by the ruling parties.

The State Election Commission (SEC) on its part has ordered returning officers not to declare any results of such wards in response to the abnormally large number of unopposed candidates.

Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) had the largest number of uncontested candidates of 22. Ravindra chavan, the president of Maharashtra BJP is a native of KDMC. The other significant concentration was observed in the Jalgaon district, the native area of Water resources minister Girish Mahajan where 12 candidates were elected without a contest.

There were also 15 BJP candidates who did not have an opponent against them in KDMC, which has a total of 122 seats, and is being contested by the BJP and the Shiv Sena jointly.
