Ujjain: An intensive search operation is being carried out in Jhalaria village, Badnagar tehsil, after a two-year-old toddler plunged into an open well in the village last Thursday night. As per reports, the accident took place at around 8:00 PM on April

The little boy has been identified as Bhagirath, who is the second-youngest child born in the family of Praveen Devasi, a shepherd hailing from Pali district, Rajasthan. The family came to Ujjain district in Madhya Pradesh only a few days back to graze their sheep. As per Superintending Officer of Police Pradeep Sharma, it was a peculiar situation because a sheep accidentally dislodged a stone from the top of the well, and the child became curious enough to look inside the well, which resulted in the unfortunate accident.

On hearing about this incident, Badnagar SHO Ashok Patidar along with senior officials such as Collector Roshan Kumar Singh and SP Pradeep Sharma reached the spot which was around 75 km away from Ujjain. A team consisting of 65 members of State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) has been sent to undertake the rescue operation

.Parallel Digging: For rescue operations, several Pocklain and JCB machines are used for digging an alternative ditch next to the well. So far, workers have dug around 35 feet deep as required.

Life Support: In order to ensure safety of the child, engineers are regularly supplying oxygen through a pipe in the shaft.

Surveillance: For watching over the condition of Bhagirath, a camera is lowered inside the well.

Though he has been spotted at a depth of around 70 feet, but as per officials, it is difficult to see him clearly because of the deep depth and narrow space.”Rescue operation is underway on a war footing. All efforts are being made for the safe rescue of the boy,” said Collector Roshan Kumar Singh.
