Dhar: The Forest Department in Dhar district, Madhya Pradesh, has taken a major action. Two people have been arrested for smuggling 135 wild parrots. The accused were transporting them from Bhopal, the capital, to Ahmedabad, Gujarat, concealed in a passenger bus. A case has been registered against the accused and further action is underway.
According to the information, based on information received from an informer, the Forest Department team stopped a passenger bus by laying a siege at Bhopawar Chowkdi on the Indore-Ahmedabad four-lane lane and on checking, they found parakeets (wild parrots) being transported in a small cage (covered with green net) hidden in the trunk of the bus. Two suspicious persons from the bus were taken to the range office Sardarpur for questioning. On opening the cage, 135 wild parrots of four different species were found in it, which were stuffed mercilessly. Some of the wild parrots had died in it.
The Forest Department immediately treated the wild parrots under the supervision of Sardarpur Veterinary Doctor Dilip Gamrad, performed postmortems on the dead wild parrots and safely placed them in a large cage. Meanwhile, during interrogation, the two suspects revealed that the cage had been brought from Bhopal and was being transported to Ahmedabad (Gujarat).
In this case, a forest offense case was registered under various sections of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, and both were produced in the Sardarpur court, where they were remanded and the investigation is ongoing. Furthermore, after obtaining permission from the court, all the parakeets were released into the dense forest.
