Ratlam: Late on Friday night, the most tragic accident involving a truck and a tractor happened at the Satrunda intersection on the Neemuch-Lebad four-lane highway in the Ratlam district.
The truck rammed the front side of the tractor, pulling it out of the way and into a hut close to the scene. Miraculously, no more loss of life was recorded since the family that occupied the hut was out of the house when the disaster struck. The truck to which the offender was driving skidded and hit an electric pole, and then a fire started on the truck. Dayaram Muniya from Kheri village (Simlawada Panchayat) the tractor driver, died on the spot, and the second person, Ramesh s/o Mangu, received grave injuries and was referred to medical college.
The mishap occurred about 30 kilometres from Ratlam district headquarters. The eyewitnesses stated that the truck was coming from Badnawar to Ratlam but the tractor was coming on the wrong side of the road. The high-speed collision was so forceful that the truck dragged both the tractor with it and piled both vehicles into a hut.
A terrible sound was heard, and people from the nearby areas ran to the scene to help. Neighbours had burnt themselves in an attempt to try and put out the fire with water that was available in different containers. Despite efforts to extinguish it, the fire continued to burn before local police arrived because of the reported fire emergency.
This sad incident cautions those who are speeding and driving in the wrong direction along highways. People of the area remained in shock and mourned over the accident while others called for increased police. The body of the driver was then collected and taken to the medical college for an autopsy the next morning.
