Bhopal: An email of a bomb threat to bomb three schools, as well as a forensic lab, caused quite a major security alert in Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh. It was an email, allegedly sent in the name of Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI, that said serial bomb blasts would be carried out at 2:45 PM. It also placed the question before authorities, if they could save the children.

Authorities responded quickly once the threat was reported. Police and bomb disposal squads immediately evacuated the schools and conducted a large-scale security check. The news broke and students, parents and school staff panicked. Nevertheless, after a thorough inspection, the bomb threat was deemed a hoax.

Detectives also confirmed later that no explosive devices were found on the premises. A case was registered at TT Nagar police station following the incident. The origin of the email is now being investigated by authorities to determine whether or not it was an attempt to create panic. Since the sender can’t be traced, cybercrime experts have been brought in to see if there is a connection to past such incidents.

Significantly, just a month ago, a threat of the same kind was issued by at least one other school in the Piplani area of Bhopal. While that threat, too, proved to be false, the repeat of such incidents has been taken seriously. And law enforcement agencies are taking all kinds of measures to ensure that any real threats in the future are properly dealt with.

The public has been asked not to panic but to be vigilant by the police. Speaking in televised remarks, they have reassured the people that those who are behind the spreading of such false threats will be taken to task strictly. Security in schools in the city has meanwhile been tightened up to ensure the safety of staff and students.
