MADHYA PRADESH: The Revenue department on Tuesday instructed the collectors of all districts in the Narmadapuram division to constitute a team of senior officials to conduct a survey of the crop loss due to the unseasonal rains that occurred on Monday.
A joint team of officials from the Panchayat and Rural development department, Revenue and Agriculture department would visit the fields and videograph the damage for the relief process and submit a report to the government in 10 days, an official said.
Agriculture minister Kamal Patel has asserted that the process for compensating the loss would be initiated immediately. Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that he has spoken in detail with officials in the affected areas. “Teams are in the field. Survey has been started. Farmer brothers and sisters, you need not worry. I and my government are with you,” Chouhan said. Severe damage has been reported to wheat and gram crops, withstanding plants hit by the hailstorm and rain, sources said.
Unseasonal rains, thunder squally and hailstorms on Monday damaged crops extensively in MP, especially in the western districts.
The Regional Meteorological Centre reported damages to crops, infrastructure, and uprooting of trees due to strong winds and hail in large parts of Mandsaur and in Shajapur, Neemuch, Ratlam, Rajgarh Sehore, Guna, Dhar, Alirajpur, Barwani, Vidisha, Bhopal, Ujjain, and Sagar districts. Hailstorm was also reported in most of these districts as well as in Dewas, Raisen, Chhindwara, and Seoni districts.
