Bhopal. Film actor Saif Ali Khan has got a big relief from the Supreme Court in the property division case of Bhopal Nawab, the capital of Madhya Pradesh. The Supreme Court has stayed the decision of the Madhya Pradesh High Court in the case. The trial court has been asked to hear the case afresh.
In fact, there is a dispute over the succession of the property of the last Nawab of Bhopal State, Mohammad Hamidullah Khan. The petition was filed by Nawab Hamidullah Khan’s descendants Begum Suraiya, Nawabzadi Kamrataj Rabia Sultan and others. Cricketer Nawab Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, his wife actress Sharmila Tagore, son Saif Ali Khan, daughters Saba Sultan, Soha Ali Khan were made parties in the case.
A bench of Justices PS Narasimha and Atul S Chandurkar stayed a recent Madhya Pradesh High Court order on Friday. The bench has issued notices to the descendants of the Nawab’s two daughters. The names include actor Sharmila Tagore, her children Saif Ali Khan and Soha Ali Khan, along with relatives from the Nawab’s second daughter’s side.
For the unversed, the Nawab’s eldest daughter, Mehr Taj Sajida Sultan Begum, was declared heir to the royal seat in 1960 under the rule of primogeniture and the Bhopal Accession Act.
Rights of all legal heirs on personal property
In this case, Yasir and Faiza Sultan claimed that all the legal heirs have the right over the Nawab’s personal property. The Supreme Court has stayed this order of the High Court on Friday. The High Court order was challenged in the Supreme Court on behalf of Saif Ali’s family. Just a month ago, the Jabalpur High Court had directed the trial court to conduct a fresh hearing. The order passed by the trial court on 14 February 2000 was found faulty and was cancelled.
