The case of his contentious comments against Colonel Sofia Quraishi is piling on the woes of Minister Vijay Shah. The Supreme Court has again struck a blow on the minister by instructing the state government on whether to authorize the prosecution of the minister or not. The state has been allowed 2 weeks by the court to make a decision on the issue.

SIT has already given its charge sheet in the case and the state government has not given it a green light yet to proceed with the prosecution. The SIT informed the Supreme Court that it is yet to obtain the government approval. In its turn, the Supreme Court ordered the state government to speed up the decision but also requested it to deliver other controversies associated with Vijay Shah to the SIT to pursue the investigation of the same.

At the hearing, the lawyer of Vijay Shah informed the court that already the minister had apologised about his remarks. Nonetheless, the Supreme Court reacted harshly saying that the apology was late.

It goes back to May 11 where Vijay Shah uttered offensive remarks about Colonel Sofia Quraishi in an event in Mahu, Indore, when he said referring to operation Sindoor. His statement was published on social media in the form of a video, which became viral, which led to the Madhya Pradesh High Court acquiring suo motu cognizance of the case. The High Court on May 14 instructed the police station at Manpur in Indore to file an FIR against the minister.

The FIR was applied according to the 152, 196(1)(b) and 197(1)(c) of the Indian penile code and it encompasses such heinous accusations as sedition and instigation to communal discord. Since the case is currently at a critical point, the judgment of the state government regarding the prosecution will dictate the further progress of this high profile scandal.
