Gwalior: A big disclosure has occurred in the case of the cracked window glass of the Shatabdi Express coach in the Gwalior district of Madhya Pradesh. Unlike what had been assumed at first, the incident had not been occasioned by flying ballast on the tracks but by planned stone pelting. The train loco pilot immediately reported the attack to the control room at Jhansi. After this, the two trains involved were thoroughly checked at the Gwalior railway station.
A case has now been registered officially by the Railway Protection Force (RPF), and a search operation is on to trace and arrest the culprits behind the attack. It happened on Wednesday, when the window of the C-3 coach of the Kamalapati-Nizamuddin Shatabdi Express was broken. At first, it was feared that the damage could have been inflicted by ballast or other track material striking the train. But on further probing, it was found that it is a case of plain stone pelting.
It was not only the Shatabdi Express train, but the Patalkot Express was targeted at the same spot. The assaults occurred between Datia and Sonagiri stations, which have currently come under the scanner of passenger safety. The stones even hit the engine of the Patalkot Express.
To give a political twist to the event, it was also reported that a former MLA of the Morena constituency, Raghuraj Singh Kansana was travelling in one of the coaches of the train that was attacked.
The railway administration has not taken the incident lightly, and it is currently investigating. Security has been beefed up in the damaged portion, and the RPF is collaborating with the local police in tracing the culprits behind this frightening act of vandalism, as it could have led to a grievous injury to the passengers.
