Bhopal. The discovery of beef at the state-of-the-art slaughterhouse in Bhopal has created a stir in political and administrative circles. The Municipal Corporation administration has ordered a thorough investigation into the entire matter, scrutinizing every aspect from the tender conditions to the allocation, operation, and finally, the commissioner’s signature.
According to reports, the case came to light when 26 tons of meat were seized from a truck in front of the Police Headquarters (PHQ) in December 2025. Lab tests confirmed it to be beef. The meat was reportedly from the Bhopal Municipal Corporation’s modern slaughterhouse in Jinsi, operated under a PPP model. The slaughterhouse was leased to Livestock Food Processors Private Limited, operated by Aslam Qureshi, also known as Aslam Chamda, for a mere ₹4 lakh per year.
The administration took strict action
- A total of 9 employees, including the veterinary doctor have been suspended.
- Aslam Chamada’s rendering plant in Adampur has also been sealed.
- The slaughterhouse company has been blacklisted.
- There are preparations to form a high-level investigation committee in the entire matter, which will include government-level officials.
This slaughterhouse was built at a cost of ₹33 crore on government land worth approximately ₹100 crore. It is alleged that while only buffalo slaughter was permitted there, a large-scale cow slaughter network operated through the supply of beef. The opposition Congress party has termed it a collusion between the BJP-ruled municipal corporation and the government, while Minister Vishwas Sarang has stated that the culprits will not be spared and strict action will be taken.
The issue also sparked a heated debate at the Municipal Council meeting. Mayor Malti Rai and Municipal Council Chairman Kishan Suryavanshi have assured swift action against the culprits. Currently, the slaughterhouse is completely sealed, and an investigation is underway. This case has become not only a case of administrative negligence but also a sensitive issue involving religious sentiments.
