The science embedded in the epic Ramkatha would now become part of the academic curriculum in Madhya Pradesh in a unique idea to blend traditional knowledge with modern education. The Department of Higher Education is set to introduce the course, discovering the scientific principles encoded in the verses of the Ramcharitmanas.
Bhopal’s Bhoj Open University is spearheading this drive by creating a special course that will lay out the scientific permutations of Ramcharitmanas using an academic and analytic strata. The Ramcharitmanas, as couplets (Chaupais), will interpret the scientific concepts for undergraduate students, to let them know the ancient wisdom in Indian scriptures.
Goswami Tulsidas had written what is considered one of the greatest works of Indian literature in the 16th century, titled Ramcharitmanas in the Awadhi language. It is referred to by Indians often as Tulsikrit Ramayan and is very popular in India, being read by millions of people across northern India. The religion that science has now adopted affected not only religion itself, but language, philosophy and now science.
This initiative will shed light on the ignored scientific novels in the narrative of the text, like the knowledge of ecology, cosmology, psychology, and ethics, which have been communicated poetically and symbolically. The curriculum will not only promote Indian heritage but also help students understand ancient literature from a rational context.
It is believed to be a step forward in making education holistic, culturally rooted, as well as intellectually enriching by bringing in the integration of traditional text with scientific interpretation. This reiterates the promotion of the ideology of interdisciplinary learning, joining spiritual heritage with science, hand in hand.
