Bhopal: The candidate for the Rajya Sabha from Madhya Pradesh, George Kurian, went to the Chief Minister’s house in the vein of nomination. During the visit, he took time to meet the then Chief Minister, Dr Mohan Yadav, and they greeted each other amidst transfers of a bouquet of flowers. After some discussion, Kurian moved to the BJP office.
Today, George Kurian, a state minister from Kerala, is likely to officially declare himself for election for the Rajya Sabha seat from Madhya Pradesh. Before that, he visited BJP state president VD Sharma and then proceeded to the Chief Minister’s house. The interaction with CM Dr Mohan Yadav was polite and was mainly devoted to the discussion of the meetings to be held in preparation for nomination and the role of this election for the state. The other BJP leadership has fully endorsed Kurian for the post, pointing to his experience and effort in the party.
After the meeting at the Chief Minister’s residence, Kurian went to the BJP office with the party state president, VD Sharma. This visit is the last call before presenting papers to the party headquarters to be forwarded to the elections body for approval. The party does not want any hitch in all formalities being done, and the senior leadership is supporting Kurian for the Rajya Sabha election.
The polling for the lone Rajya Sabha seat from the state of Madhya Pradesh will commence on Wednesday, as the process of filing nominations gets underway on the same day. The last day for nomination submission is August 21, and the nomination papers will be scrutinized on August 22. The nominee will be allowed to withdraw their candidature before August 27.
The BJP strongly believes in Kurian’s prospects; it is worth knowing that the Keralite BJP is well established, and closing this Rajya Sabha seat is crucial for the party. The nomination process and election that is to follow is expected to shake the political structure of Madhya Pradesh.
