Bhopal: The controversy in Dewas, Madhya Pradesh, is gaining major eyebrows after the BJP MLA Golu Shukla’s son, Rudraksh Shukla, and his accomplices were found misbehaving at the renowned Mata Tekri Temple. After the incident, the Math Mandir Pujari Sangathan (Temple Priest Association) made a strong statement and issued a formal letter demanding that the law enforcement agencies apologise in public within three days.
Rudraksh Shukla was ordered by the organization to apologise to Maa Jagdamba Bhawani and Nath sect priests who are covering the words with glitters. Failure to do that will only draw a very strong reaction from priests all over the Hindu community, the letter clearly states. Rishatabh Bairagi, President of the association, said that the priest linked to the incident is part of the association. The priest met a delegation of the association on Sunday who had plans to meet again on Monday. The association has warned that if an apology is not made, it will chalk out its next course of action.
According to reports, this took place when Rudraksh Shukla reached the Mata Tekri Temple in Dewas, with a convoy of more than a dozen vehicles, around 1 AM Friday night. The temple was closed, but Shukla and the others reportedly forced the priest to open the sanctum. He was allegedly abused, manhandled, and even slapped when he refused — once against temple rules — out of the mountainous beauty of Turkey.
The sources within the priest’s family themselves claim they were threatened and mistreated. The police have been formally complained to about the incident and the video showing unruly behaviour by Shukla and his group is making rounds on social media as well. Devotees and religious groups have been outraged by the incident, which has led to calls for their account and proper behaviour around sacred sites.
