Bhopal: Amita Singh, the Tehsildar of Guna district in Madhya Pradesh, took to social media to write a post that caused a political pendulum to swing. Singh’s now-deleted post contained obnoxious remarks about Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. Singh accused Gandhi of being eager to cover her face every time she found herself close to cameras while supposedly in London having alcohol. The post also had some unproven accusations regarding Congress leaders and the Vadra family about their desire for domination over the country’s Hindu population.
The post was alongside a photo of Priyanka Gandhi and Robert Vadra, and within no time, the comment from Singh sparked political controversy in Madhya Pradesh. In response, Arun Yadav, the former president of the MP Congress, said that Singh should have been disciplined for breaking Civil Service Rules and regulations. Yadav has appealed to Chief Minister Mohan Yadav to take action on the issue, stating that Singh’s behaviour on the social media accounts is highly unbecoming.
This has been made worse, especially after both political parties have come out to comment on the issue at hand. For Singh’s alleged violation of civil service etiquette, The Congress party has requested that Singh face disciplinary action. At the same time, the BJP accused the Congress party of politicizing issues and ‘begging for women’s votes all the while playing politics with their issues.’
To avoid the backlash, Singh took to her Twitter page and said that her Facebook account had been hacked. She said another ID was cloned to put up the offending material, and she is planning a complaint with the cyber police.
The post by Tehsildar was first posted on Singh’s Facebook profile, where she also mentioned Gandhi: ‘She fights political battles, she could not fight for justice against Mamata Banerjee in Kolkata, but she can drink.’ This case has, therefore, brought into light increased incidences of political rivalry and the role played by social networks.
