Three suspects have been on the run of stealing a sandalwood tree within the Madhya Pradesh Assembly, and have been arrested by the police. The arrest follows thorough investigation into the sensational incident that had cast grave concerns on the level of security arrangements at the high security premise.
The robbery occurred on December 4, when thieves purportedly hacked a sandalwood tree and stole it inside the complex of the Assembly despite the high level of security. After the incident, the issue of security and surveillance failures in the area was raised by numerous people.
The police then initiated an intensive investigation after the case is registered based on the CCTV footage of the Assembly premises and environs. The mobile location data, call detail records (CDR), and other technical evidence were also investigated by the detectives to track the suspects. The police based on this thorough technical analysis and ground-level analysis managed to arrest the accused.
The arrested persons have been identified as Anis Khan (23), the son of Babu Khan who is a resident of Barrai village of Katara Hills police station, Bhopal; Sadiq Khan (23) son of Chhote Khan, a resident of Hakimpur village, under Jawar police station, Sehore district; and Mohammad Aslam (52), son of late Bhal Khan Mewati, a resident of a rented house near Shop No.12, Housing Board Colony, Nishatpura, Bhopal.
According to the police authorities, their investigations are still being going on to ascertain whether additional individuals took part in the crime and also to evaluate on any other security failures. Accused will be brought to court and legal proceedings will be done as per the law.v
