Bhopal: Pitru Paksha has started from Purnima. In such a situation, people reached the banks of river reservoirs to offer tarpan to their ancestors. People reached the Mishra pond of Raisen from morning to offer tarpan to their ancestors where the Brahmins performed the Pitru Tarpan. This process will continue for 16 days till Pitru Moksha Amavasya. During this time, Pitru Shradh will also be performed according to the date.

According to religious scriptures, ancestors are pleased and give blessings only when Shraddha Paksha is performed with purity and rituals. The use of some metals is prohibited during Shraddha Paksha, which makes ancestors angry.

Pandit Ashok Shastri, who conducts Pitra Tarpan, told that during this Shraddha Paksha, people come to ponds and rivers for 16 days and offer water to their ancestors. Food is served to Brahmins. Favorite food of ancestors is prepared and given to crows, dogs and cows.

Pitru Paksha is considered an especially sacred time in Hinduism, during which individuals worship their ancestors with great devotion. It holds deep religious and spiritual significance as people offer prayers to their departed loved ones. It is a tradition during this period to invite Brahmins, both male and female, into one’s home to offer them sattvik food and clothing.

It is generally advised to avoid visiting prominent temples like Jyotirlingas during the Pitru Paksha period, as the focus is on performing rituals for ancestors at home. However, visiting local shrines or performing home-based puja is acceptable, as the core objective is to honor your ancestors.
