Bhopal: Even after 4 decades of the disastrous Bhopal gas tragedy, the state is still paying the price for hosting a union carbide factory. PCC chief Jeetu Patwari has taken a political dig at Union Carbide for burning its toxic waste. He has challenged the Chief Minister and the BJP government to get the water tested in the 10 km area around Ramji Company, if no cancer causing elements are found, I will publicly apologize!
“People of Pithampur and Indore, I once again challenge the Chief Minister and the entire system of the BJP government. If there is no poison in the Union Carbide waste, then Ramji should get the water tested in the 10 km area around the company, if cancer causing elements are not found, then I will publicly apologize! The government should remember that the way public sentiment is being ignored under the guise of the court, the future generations will have to pay a serious price for it! I am repeating again that Indore has given many MLAs, MPs and Mayors to BJP, but the kind of poison BJP is giving in return, the future generations will tell! I am again challenging the Chief Minister, two ministers of Indore, the collector and the entire government system, come with me, get the water samples tested, the situation will become clear!”, he wrote on X.
These comments come a day after the Supreme Court on Thursday refused to interfere with the Madhya Pradesh High Court order on shifting toxic waste from the 1984 Bhopal gas tragedy and disposing it in Pithampur area of Madhya Pradesh’s Dhar district.
A bench of Justices B R Gavai and A G Masih also refused to stay Thursday’s trial run of disposal of the waste from the Union Carbide India Ltd plant. It noted that experts from NEERI, NGRI and CPCB have given their views on the issues, which were considered by the high court as well as the expert panel.
The bench asked aggrieved parties, including civil society members, to approach the high court which is seized of the matter.
