Bhopal: From 2015-16 to 2019-21, Madhya Pradesh has achieved a milestone in its battle against poverty. A remarkable 1.36 crore individuals have successfully escaped the grip of poverty during this period. The state’s efforts have been truly remarkable resulting in a decrease of poverty intensity from 47.25% to 43.70%, making a 10% contribution towards alleviating poverty burden across the country.
The journey towards this accomplishment has been awe-inspiring witnessing a decline of 15.94% in the number of people over five years. In 2015 16 when 36.57% of the population lived below the poverty line, that figure has now dropped to around 20.63% in 2019 21. Among all states, Madhya Pradesh has experienced the reduction in poverty.
Upon examination of the data, it becomes evident that Alirajpur, Barwani, Khandwa, Balaghat, and Tikamgarh have made strides in lifting their populations out of poverty.
These achievements are highlighted in NITI Aayogs report on Multidimensional Poverty Index 2023 which will be presented at an event held at Kushabhau Thakre International Convention Centre, in Bhopal on August 8th.
Furthermore, there will be a policy brief released that showcases the endeavor of uplifting 13.6 million individuals from poverty, in Madhya Pradesh. During the event, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will deliver an address emphasizing the state’s dedication to promoting development.
