Bhopal: During the recent Lok Sabha elections in Madhya Pradesh, the BJP gave a power-packed performance by coming out victorious in all 29 seats, and Congress was left with a blush. But there is a gain in saying that Congress has a duffer in Satna’s recently concluded parliamentary constituency. However, it did not yield the expected victory margin because the competition was stiff between these two parties.
Narayan Tripathi was a leading personality of the province who used to be an asset for Congress but later turned out to be more of an inconvenience. While earlier, he planned to fight the assembly elections along with the Congress, after being defeated in the assembly by Ajay Pratap Singh, Tripathi avenged Congress by defeating it in the Lok Sabha elections. Narayan Tripathi once served the Vidhansabha 4 times and belonged to the Kaddavar constituency from the Vindhya region, who caused a great upset to Congress by defeating them in Satna.
Tripathi, who has some links with BJP during the assembly election, came up with a new party known as the Vindhya Janata Party. In the 2009 general elections, he contested in the Lok Sabha elections as a member of the BSP from the Satna constituency. The major constituency constructed on this theory apart from the traditional BSP voters ‘voting bank was against Ganesh Singh, a five-time BJP candidate from Satna. Had Tripathi not contested, those above-mentioned thousands of votes might have gone to Congress nominee Siddharth Kushwaha, who has so badly lost in Satna with 84949 votes.
In the assembly, when Kamal Nath was the chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, Narayan Tripathi was still an MLA, but he voted for the Congress when BJP was the party he was associated with. Thus, despite an air of heroism around Kapil Mishra, the BJP stayed clear of him after that episode. The Congress assured him of the ticket to the assembly elections but threw him into Polls without fulfilling the promise. Before the assembly elections, the man was still part of the BJP party. After that he founded the Vindhya Janata Party and joined BSP before contesting the Satna Lok Sabha seat.
