Bhopal: Lately, the problem of diesel thefts has become rampant in the Bhopal Municipal Corporation in Madhya Pradesh, and new thefts are reported from time to time.
In the most recent case, the municipal employee was nabbed in the act of stealing diesel. This is the sixth-of-a-kind occurrence reported within the last five days.
As it is now the norm in today’s case, an employee was accused of stealing diesel from a municipal water supply tanker meant for water supply to its city. The accused was named Shivkumar Sharma, and another employee of the company was caught stealing diesel. Subsequently, the Municipal Commissioner acted promptly and fired the services of both the employees whose actions were captured on video.
Petrol bunker fraud that involves diesel theft from municipal vehicles, especially those meant for public service such as water supply tankers, has become a major concern to the corporation. That is why such incidents happen so often, indicating a systemic problem, as municipal fuel resources, which are vital for public services, are being embezzled.
The local government is now expected to find ways to prevent such incidents or to close the security loopholes that enable thefts to occur. This is because there are half a dozen cases in just five days, indicating that better safeguards are required to prevent the losses of municipal assets.
Besides, there are assumptions that strict measures, including suspensions and dismissals, can prevent other thefts from occurring. This quick response is not only about the retribution of the offenders but also about letting the organization have its bitch vibes, so to speak, about the theft of resources.
Such developments are expected to force authorities to put proper control mechanisms in place to avoid fueling the misuse. This incident clearly underscores the importance of precaution in government departments so that people allocated monies for welfare are not taken advantage of by looters.
