Jamshedpur: The Madhya Pradesh High Court has summoned the Director General of Police (DGP) regarding a case of disrespect to the court. This move comes after recent events where the court had issued orders for the promotion of Manoj Baghel, a resident of Jabalpur, who was stationed in the police department. Despite the court’s directives, the petitioner did not receive justice. Consequently, the petitioner filed a contempt petition in this matter. During the hearing of this petition, the Madhya Pradesh High Court asked the DGP to explain and question why the petitioner was not promoted after the court’s orders.
The background of this case traces back to 2022, when Manoj Baghel filed a petition stating that he had been promoted to the supervisory inspector position on January 10, 2022. However, the department revoked his promotion on October 20, 2022, citing an alleged fraud case from 2018 against him. The lawyers representing the petitioner clarified that in the said fraud case, where the police department annulled Baghel’s promotion, no chargesheet had been presented to date.
The petitioner’s legal representatives further highlighted that despite repeated requests, the police department has failed to produce the chargesheet related to the alleged fraud. This failure to provide crucial documents has raised questions about the credibility of the department’s actions.
The court’s intervention in summoning the DGP underscores the seriousness with which it views the matter. The court seeks to ascertain why its orders were not implemented and why the petitioner was denied rightful promotion. This case not only raises concerns about administrative transparency and adherence to court directives but also reflects broader issues of accountability within the police department.
The outcome of the DGP’s response and subsequent court proceedings will likely have significant implications for the petitioner’s case. It may shed light on systemic challenges within law enforcement agencies regarding compliance with legal obligations and court rulings.
