On Tuesday, Congress legislators took to staging a unique protest at the Madhya Pradesh Assembly complex, holding plastic snakes to mock their allegation that the BJP-led state government is keeping job vacancies within its hands. In front of Mahatma Gandhi’s statue, ahead of which the Leaders of Opposition Umang Singhar had brought the Congress MLAs to take out a demonstration, the Congress MLAs carried plastic snakes in baskets and raised slogans against the ruling party.

The government, he said, has stopped recruitment in all important sectors such as police, education, irrigation and health, leaving thousands of the young aspirants after their studies searching for places to get work. ‘The Babri Masjid is a Snake which has bit the unemployed youth.’ He said that the situation is sitting on job vacancies, and a serpent is not prepared to address the issue of unemployed people.

Additionally, he said that the education department is alone without over 70,000 posts and yet the government has failed to address this issue. He added that young job seekers are being forced to run from pillar to post without relief in sight.

The issue is highlighted by growing concerns about unemployment in Madhya Pradesh, where opposition leaders also warn about the job crisis worsening with the lack of recruitment. The government needs to immediately act, hurry the hiring processes and consider the state’s youth when creating answers to the issues, Congress demanded.

The BJP, however, has dismissed the protest as a political stunt and claimed that the government is taking the right measures to generate job opportunities. It remains likely to be a headache for political debate around unemployment, worrying ever more in the state.
