Bhopal: Today marks the beginning of the budget session of the Madhya Pradesh Assembly in which Governor Mangubhai Patel addresses the House. Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Jagdish Deora will present the budget presentation on Wednesday. But ahead of the session, the opposition took a combative approach, and the leader of the opposition, Umang Singhar, posed 10 critical questions to the government on social media.

Singhar asked the government why it is taking action on such petty players like Saurabh Sharma while real masterminds behind the transport scam are out of bounds. He also protested against the level of debt which the state has — over ₹4 lakh crore — and had called for transparency on how the government proposes to manage it. Moreover, he claimed that the government is increasing debt to pay off the debt they incurred.

Opposition has raised another major issue of not having live telecast of assembly proceedings. Singhar accused the government of trying to hide its failures from the public. He also sought to know from the budget provisions for Dalits, tribals and other backward communities, whether they would be thrown to the wolves again.

Singhar also addressed the Farmers’ worries and asked when the farmers of the country would get ₹3,100 for paddy and ₹2,700 for Wheat, and why the government should not provide a guarantee on Minimum Support Price (MSP). He also asked for answers to the promised ₹3,000 monthly payment to Ladli Behna Yojana beneficiaries.

He also criticised the government on why youth in various departments are not employed given that there is a provision and that filling vacancies has not been done. He also asked what happened to the incomplete Nal Jal Yojanas as summer approached and water became available.

With reference to Madhya Pradesh’s rising crimes against women and widespread corruption, he condemned it when the government took accountability and brought justice for the people of Madhya Pradesh.
