Khandwa: After the deaths due to water in Indore, people in the villages of Killoud in Khandwa district are forced to drink fluoride-contaminated water. Villagers who came to complain to Collector Rishabh Gupta say that after drinking the water supplied by hand pumps and tube wells in the village, the teeth of children and youth have turned yellow, and many young people are starting to look like adults. Hands are not bending, liver infections are occurring, and the water is also tasteless.

The Collector said that after the matter came to his notice, a PHE team went to the spot. In the villages where the fluoride content is high, red marks have been placed on the hand pumps and tube wells (tube wells) and villagers have been urged not to drink this water.

In more than a dozen villages in Khandwa’s Killoud block, people are forced to drink fluoride-contaminated water. High levels of fluoride in the water have resulted in yellowing of children’s teeth, and complaints of hand problems and liver infections. Villagers who approached the collector with their complaint allege that no government efforts are being made to supply clean drinking water to villages facing this problem for a long time.

The Public Health Engineering Department has identified the contaminated drinking water source in the area but it has not been closed. Neither has an effective action plan been prepared for the filter plant here. Till now, due to high fluoride content in the water of Killoud, the villagers are suffering from fluorosis and other diseases. In many villages of the area, due to fluoride, people are suffering from many diseases like poor eyesight, falling of teeth, greying of hair and pain in joints etc. The villagers say that during the investigation, fluoride is present in the water in the quantity of 2.0 to 5.0 parts per million (ppm) in most of the villages.
