Bhopal: The dairy production field has reached a major milestone in the hands of the Madhya Pradesh government. Madhya Pradesh State Cooperative Dairy Federation, together with the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), will sign a cooperative agreement on February 25. This event will be held at the venue Kushabhau Thakre International Convention Center, Bhopal.

The ceremony for signing will take place in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav. Under the agreement, which is intended to be a part of the Global Investors Summit (GIS) in Bhopal, the sector will be strengthened, and milk production in the state will be enhanced.

Speaking to a news agency, Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav highlighted that this is a very important step to double the income of farmers and milk production in Madhya Pradesh. The five-year agreement will be valid with a provision for an extension on mutual consent. Under this initiative, milk collection centres will be set up in every gram panchayat, dairy federation processing capacity will be increased, and the number of cooperatives will be enlarged. At present, there are 6,000 dairy cooperatives in the state, and the government intends to reach 9,000.

This will help fairly price the milk and efficient procurement as milk collection centres will be set up at each gram panchayat. The state’s dairy plants already have a processing capacity of 18 lakh litres per day and will be augmented to 30 lakh litres per day. The expansion of the dairy sector is estimated to receive an investment of Rs. 1500 crore over the next five years. The total annual income of dairy farmers at present is ₹1,700 crore, which is likely to double to ₹3,500 crore. The initiative is, however, a major one towards giving dairy farmers power, as well as enabling a boost to Madhya Pradesh’s agricultural economy.
