Indore: The city, which was the cleanest in India, has taken a unique initiative by its municipal corporation. A once-polluted smell drain has now become a point of interest. Now, this revamped location will see the next MIC (Mayor-in-Council) meeting of the Indore Municipal Corporation.
This stand-out drain, known as Peeliya Khaal, was a haunt of filth and stench, disturbing the lives of the nearby residents to no end. It became a simple hub of pollution because of stagnant water, sludge, and the accumulation of garbage. But, in late December, the scenario changed for the better when the municipal corporation embarked on a massive cleanliness and beautification drive. The authorities removed heaps of sludge and waste from the drain with the height of four pollen machines and four Hyva trucks. After this, work on landscaping, boundary walls and gardening was done on its banks.
It is not the first drain in Indore to undergo such a transformation. In the past, the city has converted other drains into attractive sites, hosting wrestler matches, cricket games and tea parties to show how the area can look. Indications that initiatives undertaken by the municipal corporation show that even the most neglected space can be brought to life, should political will exist to do so.
Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava has recently accompanied council members and municipal officials to inspect the revamped site of Peeliya Khaal, which he recently inspected. The good thing that he shared was that they had installed the seating arrangements, which makes it a beautiful place for standing group gatherings or meetings. The mayor announced that the site where the upcoming MIC meeting would be held was chosen so that the city would stick to its efforts toward cleanliness and innovation. Also, this initiative doesn’t just improve the beauty of Indore but also inspires other cities to emulate this in sustainable urban development.
