A big robbery is reported in the sacred Khatu Shyam Temple at Dhar district of Madhya Pradesh. The accident occurred in the Dhamnod police station region, close to the AB road, on the Foodi square, and at the Maa Rewa Kuber Shani Khatu Shyam Temple. The break-in happened, as the reports noted, at 2:30-3 AM on Tuesday night as masked thieves pulled off a carefully planned robbery at the temple.

The thieves stole cordial pieces of jewelry worth lakhs of rupees, including a priceless diamond of Shyam Baba, a gold canopy, several canopies made of silver, a silver idol of Laddu Gopal, silver jewelry, such as Flute and earrings, and most astonishingly, five donation boxes. Surprisingly, even the idol of Laddu Gopal was spared by the thieves in the course of the burglary. The culprits were masked, and they broke open the locks and committed the theft using weapons as the CCTV cameras in the temple premises recorded the whole process.

Early investigations have indicated that the robbers had done a recce of the temple before committing the crime, which goes to show that the robbery was pre-planned. Temple authorities have put the approximate value of stolen items somewhere near 20 lakh. The temerity of thieves who sneaked into the temple and grabbed away the valuables calmly has incited anger not only to the worshippers but to the locals too.

After the incident, Dhamnod SDOP Monika Singh, with a group of policemen, arrived at the scene in order to estimate what happened. A complaint case has been filed, and police have got an intensive search operation underway to find out and bring the culprits to book. Security of temples in the region has been of concern, and demands have been raised after the incident.
