A very shocking case of fake robbery had happened at Gwalior, where a man had faked a robbery to get away from the huge financial pressure. The suspect is known to be a local Akhilesh Pal residing in the city of Sheikhpura, who made up a lie that he had been robbed of 12 lakh rupees by six armed criminals on two motorbikes. Pal also went to great lengths to ensure he made his claim valid according to the police. He threw stones on the road close to Behta outpost within the limits of Maharajpur police station and destroyed his four-wheeler intentionally to produce the scene of a violent attack.

Pal then reported to the police that the muggers had thwarted him, beaten him up and stolen 12 lakh worth of cash. The police moved to the scene after acting on the complaint and commenced an investigation. Nonetheless, a few hours later, inconsistencies started to appear in the words of Pal and the evidence collected on the site. On additional questioning, the reality came to the surface and the whole robbery had been stage-managed.

The father of Pal had been saddled with a loan of 35 lakh, and creditors had relentlessly been hounding him during questioning. In a bid to gather pity and protect his family against harassment by creditors, he invented the robbery story. He thought disclosing a non-existent loot would divert attention and buy time for his family’s economic problems.

Pal is held by police and is undergoing additional legal actions because of making up the case. Law enforcement specialists stressed that not only does such fake corrupt police resources, but also instil panic among the population. The case acts as a vivid reminder of how desperate people can get when caught in a bad financial situation.
