Bhopal– In a significant development concerning the theft of 240 gold coins in Baijra village, Alirajpur district, Madhya Pradesh, the police have arrested four of their personnel, including the former station house officer (SHO) of Sondwa police station, Vijay Deora, and constables Suresh Chauhan, Rakesh Davar, and Vijendra Singh. These officers had evaded capture for almost a month following the theft accusations. The SP had previously ordered their suspension.
On July 19, 2023, around 11 a.m., the accused officers allegedly entered a house in Baijra village, assaulted a woman present, and confiscated 220 gold coins buried within the residence and 20 from another property. However, they failed to document the seized items officially and purportedly divided the gold amongst themselves. This incident prompted the villagers to file an official complaint against the officers.
SP Hansraj Singh took immediate action, leading to the suspension of the involved personnel. A formal investigation was initiated after registering an FIR against the accused officers. The villagers claimed that six months prior while working in Gujarat, they had discovered six of these gold coins, which they safely buried in their homes. Unfortunately, they faced violence and intimidation by the police, who allegedly took the coins unlawfully. The arrested officers will be presented in court soon for further proceedings.
