There is also the prospect of four Rajya Sabha seats under Madhya Pradesh getting elected with political dynamics suggesting that the number of vacancies might increase. The state already has three seats in the Rajya Sabha which will become vacant and the election is scheduled in June 2026.

Fourth empty seat might emerge in case L. Murugan, Union Minister and sitting Rajya Sabha MP of Madhya Pradesh, succeeds in the coming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. Murugan is seeking a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) nominee in the Avinashi constituency in Tamil Nadu and his tenure in the Rajya Sabha is till April 2030. In the event of his win, he would be forced to step down his Rajya Sabha seat on May 4, 2026, further leaving a vacancy.

Murugan who is a senior BJP leader and Minister of State in Union government was reelected to Rajya Sabha in Madhya Pradesh. His possible shift to state assembly might greatly influence the electoral balance of the Upper house of Madhya Pradesh.

The elections in the Rajya Sabha are held with the help of the state legislative assembly members. With the BJP enjoying a solid majority in Madhya Pradesh the party will have a clear upper hand in winning these seats with chances of unopposed or easy victories over party candidates.

Should Murugan succeed in Tamil Nadu, the elections of all the four seats can be conducted either concurrently or in a staged manner, which is a very important political event in both the state and national leadership.
