Bhopal: The police resorted to lathi-charge after National Student Union of India (NSUI) workers, protesting against New Education Policy, tried to break the barricade and reportedly threw stones at police in Bhopal on Thursday. The police have also detained several NSUI workers and taken them to an open jail. Some of the protestors have also sustained injuries in police lathi-charge. State President of Media Department of Youth Congress Vivek Tripathi said that more than 12 students and officials have been injured during the lathi charge.
A large number of NSUI workers from across the state gathered at Pradesh Congress Committee Office here in Bhopal Thursday morning and started a protest against New Education Policy and inflation. They took out a rally from the PCC Office and were marching towards Chief Minister House to state a gherao. As the police had put barricades at Red Cross Square, a few meters away from PCC Office, the NSUI workers tried to break the barricades. Eyewitnesses reveal initiation of stone pelting by the NSUI workers which coerced the police to lathi charge. More than 200 activists including 2 MLAs Kunal Chaudhary, Vipin Wankhede along with the National President and State President of NSUI have been detained.
Slamming the Ss Chauhan led govt, Former Chief Minister Kamal Nath said “the NSUI was protesting to in demand of stalled scholarships and employment of tribal students. Thousands of students protesting peacefully were brutally lathi-charged by the police at the behest of the Shivraj government. Many students and NSUI officials were injured in this lathi charge. The government is not giving employment to the students, their demand is not being accepted, but they are definitely showering lathi. This is the dictatorial attitude of the government.”
