Khargone: The pain of violence that broke out in Khargone city during the procession of Ram Navami is still fresh for many families. It doesn’t seem easy to get over it. The rioters selectively wreaked havoc on Hindu families in 7 areas of the city. Houses were set ablaze by throwing petrol bombs. Somewhere they robbed the jewellery, and then took away the grain from some places.
Due to the panic of the rioters, 35 Hindu families from the affected areas have left their homes. More than 75 houses were vandalized and set on fire in the riots. In one settlement, the rioters threw a burning gas cylinder at the house of a Hindu family and blew it up. The whole house was grounded. Many people now do not even have clothes, or grains left. Many dark stories of riots are scattered in Sanjay Nagar, Kazipura, Bhatwadi Mohalla, Bhavsar Mohalla, Zamindar Mohalla and Anand Nagar the city.
Nisha Chandne’s house was in the Muslim belt in Sanjay Nagar, which has now turned into rubble. The frenzied mob blew up Nisha’s house by throwing a burning cylinder. There was no trace of the house left. On Saturday, 75-year-old Umrao Singh, along with his wife, was seen packing household items on a handcart in Kazipura. He has been given shelter by a relative. Umrao says, he has seen and suffered riots before, but this time the courage has given the answer. Earlier they used to rain only stones, but this time they were looted and set fire to the houses.
