Bhopal: In connection to the coming Budhni Assembly by-election, the Union Agriculture Minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s son, Kartikeya, has been more actively involved in the campaign.
Earlier, Kartikeya spoke at a meeting of BJP booth level workers, and there he made a statement that triggered a political furore in the region. Kartikeya said that no development will happen if a Congress candidate wins the Budhni seat, also saying, ‘If by chances that a Congress MLA is elected, not a single brick will be laid in the village.’
In reply to that, senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh said he wished to give Kartikeya some advice. On social media, Digvijaya said, “Kartikeya, don’t deliver such speeches now, ” so in their own invented word form, that was my translation. You are like my grandson, not my son. Why don’t you learn from your father, Shivraj Singh Chouhan.”
He underlined that in a democracy, the government and the opposition are in the process of creating the country. When asked about his stint as the Chief Minister, Digvijaya remarked that he had never used that kind of language, and to prove it, he said, ‘Your father knows about this.’
Kartikeya went on with his speech and made more comments about possible would-be rebels and the need to maintain the IGP BJP together. Contemplating further, he asked, “If a Congress MLA wins, whose loss will it be? What is in it for us to undermine ourselves?” He pointed out the need for cooperation with government authorities for local development and quizzed why one should jeopardize one’s position of trust by disrupting polls or voting for the opposition.
Digvijaya replied further and said that according to the Panchayati Raj laws, it’s the sarpanch who is supposed to take up developmental work, not the MLA. He said to Kartikeya, “You are not sarpanch, not MLA either. This is my own perception, and you can decide to take or leave, which is wholly up to your discretion. Jai Siya Ram.”
It should also be pointed out that Shivraj Singh Chouhan has been in the Budhni constituency more than once.
