The ruling party has shown to be on the side of the senior Congress leader and former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh; he has received the public support of state Cabinet Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya. Vijayvargiya showed solidarity by posting on the X social media platform where he made no secret of supporting the position of Digvijaya Singh and referenced it as a show of the real democratic value.
Vijayvargiya in his post stated that ideological differences are normal in democracy, and it takes courage to say the truth, and not every person has it. He added that the open opinions given by Digvijaya Singh might have lowered his dignity in the Delhi durbar, but honesty is the sign of good character. Vijayvargiya also added that Digvijaya Singh himself has been walking in the footsteps of other Congress leaders in the 1950s, like Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel among others, who were unrestrained in speaking out the truth, when it suited the political expediency.
According to the minister, this capability to overcome party lines and voice his opinion is the real beauty of democracy. He argues that the conflict does not undermine democratic institutions, but rather, honest debate and the willingness to express unpopular views make them strong.
Recently, Digvijaya Singh has come into the limelight with a praise of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and this act has been met with a stiff criticism in the political arena, especially in his own party. Vijayvargiya termed this as a political courage because Singh could have been honest but doing that would not have been concurrent with the political judgment.
