Jabalpur: If everything goes as planned, Jabalpur will soon be known as Jabalipuram. In a council meeting led by Mayor Jagat Bahadur Singh Annu, a proposal has been put forth to change the name of Jabalpur to Jabalipuram. Mayor Annu mentioned that a delegation, under the leadership of saints, will visit Bhopal. There, they will meet with Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav to present the proposal. Once approval is granted by the state government, the name change from Jabalpur to Jabalipuram will be official.
The decision was taken during a meeting of the Mayor-in-Council, where it was decided that the land on the banks of the Narmada, where Jabalpur is situated, holds historical significance as the tapobhumi (meditation land) of Jabali Rishi. Therefore, Mayor Jagat Bahadur Singh Annu announced that the name Jabalpur, which holds no particular significance, should be replaced with Jabalipuram to honor the tapobhumi associated with Jabali Rishi along the Narmada river. Mayor Annu revealed that he had previously submitted a written proposal during the tenure of the former Mayor Sushila Singh. The proposal had received approval from the Municipal Corporation, and now, Mayor Annu is seeking endorsement from the Chief Minister.
Mayor Annu emphasized that Jabalipuram would better reflect the spiritual and historical importance of the city. The decision to rename Jabalpur aligns with the sentiments of the local representatives and the leadership of saints. Mayor Annu expressed his intent to meet Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav in Bhopal along with the delegation, seeking permission for the name change. The proposed change, once approved, will resonate with the cultural and historical essence of the city, marking a significant step in preserving and honoring its heritage.
