Jabalpur: Significantly, the Mayor in Council (MIC) or Jabalpur Municipal Corporation has now passed a resolution in favour of the ‘One Nation, One Election’ initiative, which is a matter of debate within the country. The state government will now be asked to give its consent to the resolution, after which it will be forwarded to the President of India. This is taken to be a small step in the direction of fulfilling Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of harmonising elections so that governance improves and money is saved on campaigning.
This resolution is a positive step towards fulfilling this dream: One Nation, One Election, said Mayor Jagat Bahadur Singh ‘Annu.’ According to him, the idea seeks to make the election process uniform and cut short disruptions caused by frequent elections. Once the states approve, this resolution will show the support of local governing bodies for national electoral reforms.
During the meeting, apart from this, several development projects were discussed. Many announcements were made, including the birth of a new food zone named ‘Maa Narmada Prasadam’. Culinary delights of various Indian states will be brought to this food zone, which will offer residents and tourists, a range of different regional dishes. The experience that the people of Jabalpur will gain from this would be a cultural food experience, and this would also boost local tourism as well.
The council also proposed a plan to ease traffic congestion in the city as it sought further means of improving urban infrastructure. A total of 72 new parking points will be set up in Jabalpur on various parts of it. This major urban development initiative has already initiated the tender process. With these parking zones, the traffic flow will be given a grip, and the parking problem will be solved for all the residents and visitors who visit the city.
